What is Soda Blasting?

Soda blasting can be used to clean surfaces without damaging the substrate (surface underneath the material being removed). Often it is used in cleaning aluminum (parts, aircraft, easily damaged surfaces).

One of the best uses for soda blasting is on wood surfaces in fire and smoke damaged buildings. The baking soda removes odors that are not easily removed by other methods. It’s also used in refurbishing it can be used on wood in homes that has been damaged by pet odors.

Soda blasting requires a special machine that is used to mix the sodium with air which is directed at the surface to be cleaned with much lower pressure than traditional sandblast cleaning. Hence the ability to remove surface odor/material/rust/paint without damaging the underlying material or surrounding surfaces.

Soda blasting is more expensive due to the material cost and specialized equipment needed.

Interesting Fact: The process was originally created for use in the restoration process for the Statue of Liberty in 1975!
